Get it Together!

As the cast of HSM once said, we’re all in this together. No one is out hitting the gym, going to yoga classes, meeting up with friends or hanging out in the office building of their dream job. While we’re all cooped up inside, there’s a lot that we can’t do right now, but there are also things that we could be doing right now instead of laying in bed scrolling on Instagram and TikTok all day (guilty).


Here are a few things to do to get your life together during this break, or at least feel like it.


`1. Find a workout routine that works for you

Make it a point to work out at least once a week. If you didn’t really work out before, use this time to set up a routine that you’ll try to stick to. It’ll give you something to (hopefully) look forward to and make you feel a lot better that you did something for your health. If you’re stuck and don’t know what to do now that your favorite gym is closed, try to do as much as you can at home. Incorporate as much as you can into at-home workouts, and find ways to make your at-home workout feel better than your trip to the gym. Whether that means wearing that stylish gym fit that makes you feel good, letting yourself get all sweaty or blasting your hype music and singing along, incorporate something fun that you don’t usually do! No one’s there to judge you, so go all out.


2. Clean, organize, throw away

I’m not saying you need to completely redo everything and create your dream house (although that would be pretty nice). Take on a few small tasks at a time, and take care of the things you’ve been meaning to clean. Organize your closet and donate/sell the things you don’t wear, throw away your old/expired makeup, clean off your dirty shoes — whatever it is that you’ve been meaning to do, do it!


3. Plan

Take some time to plan the day or week or even the whole year if you’re feeling ambitious! Having a to-do list or some kind of outline for the next few weeks will be extremely helpful to make sure you’re staying on top of your work and other tasks. With all these days starting to blend together, it’s nice to be able to check things off your list and feel accomplished. Make sure you schedule self care and time to relax!

4. Figure out your finances

Now is a great time to look at your money and how you’re spending it. Cancel any old subscriptions you’re not using anymore or try to cut down on unnecessary spending. You can also try to set goals for yourself — one popular piece of advice is the 50/30/20 rule where 50% of your income goes towards necessities, 20% is saved and the other 30% is up to you. You can also take this time to look into investing or building your money! I’ve tried investing some of my money in the stock market which has been something I’ve been meaning to get into. Maybe get a credit card to start building credit, set up a Roth IRA account or any of those other things everyone says to do while you’re young.


5. Fall in love with yourself!

Do something nice for yourself that’ll make you feel good. Take a bath, do a face mask, do your makeup, dance to your music, read a book, have a glass of wine, watch a movie — enjoy the little things that make you happy.
