Get Unready With Me

If I’m being honest, getting ready for bed is almost as fun as getting ready to go out.

There’s no better feeling than being nice and clean. I feel like I have my life together the most when I’m able to do a full multi-step skincare routine. Ever since I got to college and got clearer skin, I’ve been into a less-is-more routine. However, I figured I’d treat myself and give my skin some extra love tonight.

Step 1: Makeup Remover

My absolute favorite way to remove my makeup is with micellar water. I use the Garnier one, and it has been a game-changer for me. It’s extremely gentle but still gives you a very thorough cleanse. It can remove even my toughest waterproof mascaras which is pretty impressive for some fancy water. One of my favorite parts about using this is that my skin feels silky soft and doesn’t feel stripped like some cleansers tend to make my skin feel. It has kind of an oily finish, but that can just be wiped away with a cotton pad.

Step 2: Cleanser

If I’m still feeling a little dirty even after the micellar water, I’ll go ahead and give my face a quick wash. I have a ton of favorite face washes, but the one I’m using right now is by Nerium. It’s kind of a milky, watery cleanser that you work into your dry skin and then wash it off. I find this to be nice and gentle too. If I have a bad breakout, I’ll use my African Soap which is another holy grail product for me. It has thousands of 5-star reviews on Amazon, and it’s less than $10 for a GIANT brick of soap. I’ve had mine for over two years now and haven’t even made a dent. Sometimes I’ll cut up little samples to give to my friends (hire me LUSH) because there is no way I’ll be able to use it all. It’s amazing. It has a kind of a metallic smell to it, and it feels like a medicated soap. It truly heals my skin like nothing else! I usually lather it up and let it seep into my skin for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

Step 3: Serum

I’m a hoarder when it comes to serums. I can never pick a favorite, so I usually just choose one or two that work well together and solve whatever my skin’s going through. Tonight I’m using Buffet by The Ordinary, which is a peptide serum to fight signs of aging. I’m also going to use The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum which targets blemishes and redness.

Step 4: Moisturizer

Finally, I’m going to use a moisturizer once my serums are all absorbed. I really like to use CeraVe’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion since it’s super hydrating but doesn’t leave an oily finish. This is also really gentle, and I can trust that this lotion won’t break me out or irritate my skin.

Step 5: Final Touches

For some final touches to my nighttime routine, I’m going to use the cult-favorite spot treatment by Mario Badescu. I also love to apply some chapstick or lip mask before I go to bed so my lips are nice and smooth in the morning. My absolute favorite is probably Glossier’s Balm Dotcom in Birthday. Finally, I usually toss my hair up into a ponytail to try to keep my hair tame while I sleep.
