Self-Growth During Self-Isolation

With coronavirus taking over our lives, it can be easy to feel pretty lost, lonely and confused now. Especially with calls for social distancing, it may feel like your whole world is turned upside down and that you have no one to turn to that’ll make you feel better. While it may seem like these next couple of weeks will keep getting worse, this time can be used as an opportunity to grow and do things you normally wouldn't have done. Here are five things to do for yourself while social distancing.


1. Call someone you love

With busy work days and overwhelming amounts of homework and projects, it can be easy to get stuck in your own little bubble. The days turn into weeks and next thing you know, you can’t remember the last time you called your grandma. Take this time to call people you haven’t talked to in a while and catch up. Even better, FaceTime someone! It’s nice to see your loved ones faces, and it’ll make you feel a lot less lonely.


2. Work out

I know I always blame a busy life on not sticking to a workout routine. Now? No excuses! While gyms may be closed, there are still lots of ways to get in a good workout at home. YouTube has an endless amount of videos that’ll help engage you in getting a full-body workout done. Here’s a great one to start with:




3. Pick up an old hobby (or start a new one!)

Now that you have plenty of time on your hands, do something hands-on! Whether that’s drawing, cooking or photography, take this time to dive into something and not only do it, but do it well. Who knows, maybe this hobby will stick around for a long time after!



4. Go outside

Being in the same place for too long is enough to drive anyone crazy. Instead of locking yourself up in your room, go outside and enjoy the fresh air! Simply taking a while around your neighborhood can boost your mood and be a nice change of scenery. It’s not often that we take time to just sit and appreciate nature; next time you're outside, just take a few minutes to feel the wind blow through your hair, hear that the birds are still chirping, feel the warm sunlight and see how that makes you feel.

5. Clean

I’m not talking about disinfecting every doorknob in your house, I’m talking about finally cleaning out that closet that is overflowing with things you haven’t seen or used in years. It’ll feel so good to organize any clutter you might have, and you’ll be thanking yourself once it’s done! If you’re cleaning out your wardrobe, you could even make some money by selling clothes on Depop or Poshmark which is definitely some motivation.
